This pair of seahorses are cut from smooth white leather, embossed by hand with shiny metallic gold foil, and hung from shiny gold-plated leverback hooks. These are statement earrings designed to turn heads, but they are really lightweight and wearable too.
In these original Rosita Bonita illustrations the seahorses have horse-like heads, representing the hippocampi, the trusty leaders of Poseidon's chariot in tales from ancient Greece. Made by Ro in her Margate studio.
Fom the Siren collection; inspired by ancient obsessions with mythological fish-tailed beasts, and celebrating girlhood fairytale fantasies and 20th-century mermaid carnival exhibits and aqua shows.
Overall earring drop length is 10cm. Seahorse measures 8cm high by 3cm across.
Rosita Bonita is the glamorous alter ego of (equally glamorous!) designer Rowenna Harrison. Ro began experimenting with screen-printing her designs onto leather back in 2010, marrying her life-long love of drawing with an experimental approach to materials.
Each piece of Rosita Bonita printed leather jewellery is lovingly handcrafted in Ro’s Margate studio, a stone’s throw from the Grotto. Original illustrations are screen-printed or foil-embossed onto fine leathers and carefully assembled into unique and collectable treasures. With these influences, and a pervading sense of dreamy fun, Rosita Bonita creates tactile printed leather statement jewellery, which is at once nostalgic and novel.
