The proper name for this distinctive shell is Bursa Rubeta. Its exterior is round and knobbly, and it’s this warty surface that gives them their common name of frog shells. Which makes them sound rather unattractive - but they’re not!

The opening of the shell is delicately ribbed, while the interior is creamy smooth and apricot coloured. It's a robust, thick shell that is a common shell in the waters of the Indo Pacific.

This shell measures 23cm long by 14cm wide. With specimen shells such as this one you will receive the shell photographed.

We also have smaller frogs for sale.

  • All the shells we sell in our shop are real and they are from abundant and sustainable sources. The vast majority of these shells are a by product of the food industry, even the really tiny ones (used to make soups!).

Our suppliers are a socially responsible organisation in the Philippines, paying a fair daily wage, who do not export any current endangered species of any sort. We do not stock items taken solely for decorative purposes such as seahorses, puffer fish, etc.

All the shells are natural; they’ve just been cleaned and, in some cases, polished and occasionally carved or acid-etched. Isn’t nature amazing!
